Oggi ha inizio la Transgender Awareness Week, che mira a dare visibilità alle persone transgender e di genere non conforme e che si chiuderà lunedì 20 novembre con il Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), una giornata per ricordare le vittime della transfobia.

Per l’occasione volevo quindi parlarvi di questo libro che ho letto qualche anno fa e che sul momento ho quasi odiato tanto è grande la sua capacità di togliere la terra di sotto i piedi e destabilizzare chi legge. Per questo, non finirò mai di ringraziarlo.

Di cosa parla Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation di così spaventevole? È una raccolta di testimonianze di persone transgender, non binarie, travestite, transessuali e via dicendo che sfidano quello che ci hanno insegnato e credevamo di sapere sui generi. Le esperienze riportate sono così varie che è altamente probabile trovarne almeno una in grado di scuotere le nostre convinzioni.

Purtroppo il libro è disponibile solo in inglese (ma dai?), ma provate a dargli una chance, prendendolo in prestito su Internet Archive: c’è sia questa versione del 2010, sia quella precedente del 1994 e intitolata Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us. Se siete avvezz* a leggere in inglese non dovreste avere problemi, ma prendendolo in prestito, male che vada, non avrete buttato soldi!
